EAST GRAND FORKS — The VFW Memorial Arena and Civic Center improvement projects in East Grand Forks are starting to wrap up. Jorgen Erickson, Parks and Recreation superintendent, on Tuesday gave City Council members an update on both arenas during their regular meeting. In the Civic Center, Erickson said the process to prepare to build the ice was started on Monday, with the ice itself being built on Thursday. Folks over there are getting everything painted, as well as the lines and everything for the rink, he said. Activities at the Civic Center resume on Oct. 19, though Erickson added some work from the contractors may continue past that point and crews have been made aware of upcoming events. At the VFW Memorial Arena, Erickson said good progress has been made on the compressor room, and painting for the exterior and interior of the building has begun. The parking lot is expected to be paved next week and tentatively ready for use by Oct. 19. As of n
